Interestingly enough, the marketing campaign for Disney's live-action remake of ALADDIN has been gaining steady traction in recent weeks, with the film now hitting the tracking boards at a solid eighty million projection. The most recent of TV spots have been gaining over new fans who are quite simply delighted with the faithfulness of certain shots and moments. And to cap it all off, a handful of positive reactions of the film made their way onto social media this past week, citing Will Smith as an excellent choice for the legendary Genie. However, it appears that Disney may have punctured the steadily rising balloon of confidence themselves with a confirmation that yes, the review embargo for ALADDIN will lift a mere one day before the film officially opens in theaters nationwide.
It's a similar move to that of THE NUTCRACKER AND THE FOUR REALMS, a film that crashed and burned at the box office and should not be the precedent for ALADDIN. However, this isn't an instant sign of defeat for ALADDIN. After all, most remakes generally do get a decent audience reception as they are so faithful to the original great source material. Moreover, Disney has been getting into the habit of a tight-lipped review embargo schedule with AVENGERS: ENDGAME and CAPTAIN MARVEL being the obvious examples. However those films had legitimate reasons concerning spoilers to hold coverage so late, and ALADDIN is based off a beloved classic of Disney Animation. For the technicalities, the review embargo will officially lift on Wednesday, May 22nd at 9:00am EST, translating to 6:00am PST. HBB Reviews will once again be present to cover the film and our review will lift at that time promptly.
ALADDIN Hits Theaters on May 24th, 2019.
