At this year's HBB Reviews Awards, the winners were evenly distributed amongst some exceptional films, including FIRST MAN, A STAR IS BORN, MARY POPPINS RETURNS, and of course BLACK PANTHER, the film which took home the Editor's Choice award. This is the first year that the award has been implemented and highlights the collective, popular opinion of all of our members. What distinguishes this award from other awards is that Editor's Choice only involves the opinion of members, while official awards also take into account audience participation as well.
More than any other film this year, it seems that BLACK PANTHER has had the largest social movement. From its now iconic salute to the integration of vibranium into popular culture, the film has had an astounding impact, even topping that of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. And yet for all of its social impacts, it seems, judging by the opinions of our staff members, that the film is also breathtaking in its quality. Featuring an inventive screenplay, somewhat hobbled down by a weak final act, BLACK PANTHER breaths polish with star-studded performances and memorable set pieces. BLACK PANTHER is available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital now.
