With CAPTAIN MARVEL hitting theaters nationwide in just a few weeks, many fans have been eagerly anticipating when the first reviews for the film will debut. After all, media and reviews have proven to be such a critical aspect of the film industry that it can sometimes be directly correlated to a film's success or failure, with exceptions of BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY and VENOM. But the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has enjoyed such a grand amount of critical acclaim, that its review embargoes are usually lifted weeks before the official release. However, it seems that CAPTAIN MARVEL will be a contender against this trend.
According to recent updates, the review embargo will be lifted on Tuesday, March 5th at 9:00am EST, translating to 6:00am PST. As for the social media reactions, they will fortunately be released this coming Wednesday, February 20th at 12:30am EST and Tuesday, February 19th at 9:30pm EST. This reactions will be critical for deciphering the reaction that the film will garner when the review embargo finally does release.
While this confirmation is far from an immediate failure for CAPTAIN MARVEL, it does show that Marvel isn't as confident in this release as their previous ones. And unlike AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, whose review embargo lifted in a similar manner, there most likely aren't any major spoilers to reveal beforehand since it is a prequel to the entire MCU. My personal guess is that CAPTAIN MARVEL will land at around 70% on Rotten Tomatoes. CAPTAIN MARVEL hits theaters on March 8th, 2019.
