Christopher Nolan has been described as one of the greatest directors of our current generation and for certainly good reasons. From his earliest works with MEMENTO and INSOMNIA to his highly regarded sophomore efforts with THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY and INCEPTION to his most recent Academy-Award winning World War II epic, DUNKIRK. He has jumped consistently between genres, making each new film feel like a breath of fresh air from the last, even though they are all heavily rooted in the singular theme of time. And with DUNKIRK having released in July of 2017, many fans are eager to see what the Oscar-nominated writer and director has in store next.
Well it seems as if the wait may soon be over, as Warner Bros has officially dated Nolan's next film for the release date of July 17th, 2020, an estimated three years after the original theatrical release of DUNKIRK on July 21st, 2017. No other details have been revealed yet, outside of the confirmation that the film will be displayed and offered in the premium theatrical service IMAX, a service that Nolan has repeatedly stated he's a massive fan of. As of the moment, production has kicked into gears yet, so when it does, expect set photos revealing potential plot details to emerge.
Christopher Nolan's last film, DUNKIRK, was a marvelous and technical achievement that was easily one of the best war films of all time. Paced to a ticking clock, Nolan never let his firm grasp of the audience go until the end of the film's decently lengthen conclusion. Utilizing sweeping shots from cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on the film, to Hans Zimmer's exhilirating tense score, DUNKIRK is the pinnacle of technical filmmaking, diving deep into what a film really could be. As a result, the very prospect of Nolan bringing a new collection of innovative ideas to the big screen should be exciting, if not outstanding news.
Christopher Nolan's latest film hits theaters on July 17th, 2020.
