Out of any of the awards presented at HBB Reviews this year, the best picture category is easily the most prestigious. Celebrating the highest achievement in film, it's open to a wide variety of genres and artists from theater-releases to digital-only titles. This year, the entire HBB Reviews staff chose ten films to nominate in the best picture category. The nominees are presented below in their respective alphabetical order.
1: AVENGERS - INFINITY WAR
2: A STAR IS BORN
3: A QUIET PLACE
4: BLACK PANTHER
5: FIRST MAN
6: GREEN BOOK
7: MARY POPPINS RETURNS
9: SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE
10: THE THIRD MURDER
And the official winner for the best picture category is Damien Chazelle's third directorial effort, FIRST MAN. Releasing earlier this year on October 12th, the film follows the breathtaking and momentous story of astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first person to ever set foot on the Moon. Using bold and humbled means of storytelling, Chazelle and company create a riveting, jaw-dropping experience.
In our review, we cited the film as "a bold, innovative work from director Damien Chazelle that has the courage to be quiet in the face of such a loudly monumental topic, even if the film sometimes feels hollow in its meaty length." The official ranking of these films can be found in the Awards 2018 page, found as a subpage of the Exclusives section of the site. In addition, the full list of nominations and winners is available as well as articles highlighting key winners.
FIRST MAN is playing in theaters now.
