Coming out at the end of the month as one of the most highly anticipated theatrical releases all year long, Mulan looks to dominate the box office with a sixty million opening weekend when it debuts on March 27th. This may not have been the emboldened opening that Disney wished for, but it certainly isn't a bad one, especially when considering the nationwide fear that the coronavirus has sparked. Theaters are surely seeing a hit from audiences who are afraid to step into the cinema where other families are crowded together because of the virus. Nonetheless, Mulan had its world premiere last night which was shortly followed by the lifting of the social media reaction embargo. Responses are overwhelmingly positive, and such high spirited coverage will surely carry over to the film's actual review embargo which has been officially dated by Disney.

The review embargo for Mulan will lift on Monday, March 23rd at 12 PM EST or 9 AM PST. This is the Monday before the film's theatrical release, so its dating here is mostly expected. It's likely that Disney prepares to unleash a fury of marketing in the week before the film's release in order to drive in the audiences in droves, beginning with the lifting of the review embargo. Following the box office smash hit, if critically mixed The Lion King from visionary director Jon Favreau, Mulan most certainly has heavy pressure on its shoulders, particularly from those unsure about its creative departures from its animated source material. Either way, the buzz for the film is about to be kicked up several notches, so be sure to check back here on March 23rd at 12 PM EST to see our thoughts on the latest Disney live action remake.
